The Best Outdoor Dining, NYFW Events & Pop-Ups in SoHo & Tribeca
There’s nowhere more exciting than New York City this summer. On the heels of an NBA Championship and fresh Broadway productions, this season brings even more picture-perfect weather and vibrant energy, along with a buzzy events calendar of outdoor dining pop-ups, New York Fashion Week shows, sample sales, sunset soirees, and so much more.
Conveniently placed between Tribeca and SoHo, AMTD Idea Tribeca Hotel is just minutes away from the best things to see and do in NYC this summer. Get an inside look with our curated guide, designed for the cultural savants and art-loving travelers.
Get ready for New York Fashion Week
Each September, New York City plays host to the world’s leading designers, supermodels and celebrity stylists at New York Fashion Week (NYFW).
The spectacle officially returns September 10-15, though several off-calendar runway shows and opening parties are rumored to start September 9. Keep an eye on the CFDA website and NYFW.com for schedules.
While most designer shows require credentials, Runway 7 and The Bureau Fashion Week offer general admission tickets to shows by emerging designers. Likewise, all fashion lovers are invited to CFDA’s streaming parties at Rockefeller Center.
AMTD Idea Tribeca Hotel is also close to world-leading art and design institutions, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, famous for the Costume Institute galleries behind the annual Met Gala.
Beyond runways and exhibition halls, you’ll find designer pop-ups and late-night parties all over SoHo and the Meatpacking District, minutes from our hotel.
Here are even more NYFW planning tips:
- Dress for comfort, not just style! Sneakers and loafers will be your saviors after miles of walking around town.
- Remember most shows have limited bag polices; smaller purses are the way to go.
- Bring a portable charger, maybe even two!
- Scope out beauty activations to touch up your makeup for free.
- Space out your events to allow time for food. You’ll need your energy, and our neighborhood has some of the best cafes and celebrity-favored restaurants in town, like Frenchette, Balthazar, and Locanda Verde.
Shop Luxury Sample Sales in NYC
Well-heeled travelers know that August is one of the best times of year for sample sales – when last season’s inventory is strategically marked down to make way for new fall-winter collections.
At AMTD Idea Hotel, guests are close to top sample sales and authentic vintage markets where designer labels and luxury ready-to-wear are yours for a fraction of the price. Here are some of our favorites to check out this summer:
- 260 Sample Sale – In addition to online sales, 260 hosts in-person sample sales on Lafeyette Street, just a 10-minute walk from our hotel. Unlike other samples with mixed brands and styles, 260 spotlights one brand at a time, often with 50% to 80% discounts. Recent sample sales include Faithfull, Billy Reid, and Rixo.
- The Sample – Also on Lafayette Street, The Sample is a blank canvas for luxury brand pop-ups that rotate nearly every week. Expect a mixed curation of clothing, accessories, and homeware from the likes of Ferragamo, Supreme, Maison Margiela, Valentino, Bottega Veneta, and Brunello Cucinelli.
- Ulla Johnson – For the bohemian spirits and maxi dress lovers, Ulla Johnson’s sample sale is not to be missed. Save the dates for August 26-29 at 45 W 25th Street.
- Pickwick Vintage Show – The traveling vintage market, Pickwick, returns to NYC this summer on Saturday, August 15 for a pop-up shopping experience at Grand Central. Your $12 ticket grants access to 30+ vendors selling rare vintage gems, clothing, accessories, and decor dating back to the early 1900s.

Soak up the Summer Weather at Outdoor Bars & Restaurants
After you score designer deals, celebrate in true New York summer style: outdoors, with a glass of wine, and freshly shucked oysters on ice.
Our SoHo and Tribeca neighborhoods have some of the best outdoor dining in NYC. Among our local favorites, you’ll find:
- Grand Banks – A floating oyster bar, located on the deck of a historic sailboat docked at Hudson River Park. Come for the wild-caught oysters, stay for the cocktails and gorgeous sunset views.
- Altro Paradiso – This chic Italian restaurant offers spacious outdoor seating and a daily aperitivo hour from 4-6 pm, as well as lunch and dinner menus by renowned chef Ignacio Mattos.
- Fanelli Cafe – Craving something simple? Fanelli is an old-school pub (built in 1847!) with classic burgers, French fries, and excellent people watching.
- Ladurée – This Parisian cafe-boutique feels like a secret garden. An ideal spot for morning coffee or lunch meetings that aim to impress.
- The Odeon – Keith McNally’s infamous Tribeca restaurant has long been a favorite among celebrities. No reservations for outdoor tables, but we promise the steak frites and crisp martinis are well worth the wait.
